Eligible applicants of all categories possessing the minimum educational qualifications are required to appear for an entrance examination conducted at the university.

Exemptions
- Candidates who have passed their UGC NET and/or GATE
- Any applicant working as Assistant Professor (or at a higher level) in a recognised institute/university including NU
- All candidates must appear for an in-person interview conducted by the faculty of the research discipline they are applying to.
- How to Apply:
Please follow the steps:
1. Interested applicants must create an account on the NU Online Applicant Portal. Next, applicants must fill in the Online Application Form and upload the relevant documents i.e., Class X, Class XII, graduation, and postgraduation mark sheets. The candidates must also submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP) along with the application.
Candidates who:
- Have qualified for UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGCCSIR NET (including JRF) /SLET/GATE examinations
- Hold a teacher fellowship
- Have passed a MPhil programme and have valid scores of any of the national examinations
(any of the above) must submit the relevant documents as proof along with the other documents. All the documents must be self-attested.
An applicant may choose to submit the completed application form, along with all the required documents in one of the following ways:
- Upload the completed form and other relevant documents online at www.niituniversity.in
- Send the documents by registered post/speed post/courier service to NU Central Admissions Office at NIIT House, 85, Sector 32, Institutional Area, Gurugram– 122001.
- Submit application form and required documents in person to an authorised NU representative, details of which are available on the NU website.
- Email the scanned copy of the completed form to, along with the scanned copies of the required documents.
- 2.NU will send an acknowledgement of receipt of the application form and an intimation about the schedule for the admission process within five working days from the last date of application.
- 3.The NU Admissions office will notify eligible candidates about the entrance examination dates and the location where it will be held.
The entrance examination comprises of a written test (aptitude and subject specific). The examination is based on the current GATE Syllabus for Science and Engineering, current UGC NET syllabus for Management and Humanities and Social Sciences. The test comprises multiple choice questions and/or short answer-based questions. Marks gained in the entrance exam will carry 70% weightage. - 4.All short-listed candidates will be called in for an interview. A candidate needs to score a minimum of 50% in entrance test in order to be shortlisted for the interview. The interview panel is chaired by the Dean, Research or a nominee appointed by the Dean, Research and comprises the Area Director, one professor from the area, one/two experts from the area as per the interested research area of the candidate. External subject area experts with excellent credentials from reputed university/research organisations/industry are also members of the panel. A candidate must score minimum of 50% in the interview/viva-voce to be eligible for final selection. The interview will carry 30% weightage.
The interview/viva voce also considers whether:- the candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research.
- the research work can be suitably undertaken at the institution/college.
- the proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge.
- 5.The name of the selected candidates will be uploaded on the NU website. An admission offer will be made to selected candidates within five working days of the completion of the admission process. Certain applicants may be put on a waitlist.
- 6.The selected candidates should submit their acceptance letter duly signed by them and their parent/guardian/spouse along with the non-refundable admission acceptance fee of ₹ 25,000 (Rupees twenty-five thousand only) via electronic transfer or demand draft within five working days of receiving the letter of admission. Students also need to pay the applicable semester fee within 15 days of receiving the offer letter by cash, electronic transfer or a crossed demand draft in favour of NIIT University, payable at New Delhi.
- 7.Candidates who have confirmed their admission are required to come to the university campus on the date prescribed in the academic calendar to complete the first registration formalities including verification of their original marksheets of their master’s degree (if applicable), the Baccalaureate degree, and the Class X and XII examinations.
